Yoga Mat Wash

Yoga mat cleaner is the most essential care product for keeping your practice hygienic and extending the life of your mat. Sweat, oil and skin residue that build up on the mat’s surface during practice lead to bacteria over time and reduce the mat’s grip. With the mat cleaning sprays in the Stilefit collection, made with natural ingredients, alcohol-free and gentle on your mat’s surface, you can easily keep it clean after every practice. Check out our guide below to choose the best cleaner for your mat type (TPE, PVC, rubber).

How to Clean a Yoga Mat

Keeping your yoga mat clean isn't just about hygiene; it's also essential for a safe practice. The right cleaning routine should include these steps:

  • Quick Clean: After every practice, spray yoga mat cleaning spray over the mat and gently wipe it with a microfiber cloth.
  • Deep Clean: Once a month, wipe your mat with lukewarm water and a very small amount of natural soap/cleaner for a deeper clean.
  • Drying: After cleaning, dry your mat in the shade, out of direct sunlight, and roll it up only once you're sure it's completely dry.

What to Look for When Choosing a Yoga Mat Wash

Not every cleaner on the market is suitable for every type of mat. Keep these criteria in mind when choosing:

Frequently asked questions about Yoga Mat Wash

How often should a yoga mat be cleaned?

A light spray clean after every practice; a deep clean every 2-4 weeks, depending on how often you use it.

Is cleaning with water alone enough?

Although water removes dust, it doesn't fully eliminate the oils and bacteria that build up with sweat. That's why we recommend using an antibacterial mat wash.

Can you use vinegar on natural rubber mats?

No. Vinegar can break down natural rubber and fade its color. For these mats, choose the special cleaners recommended by the mat brands.

Why did my mat become slippery after cleaning?

If you used too much cleaner or didn't fully rinse and dry the mat, residue can make it slippery. Use only a small amount of cleaner and always wipe it down with a dry cloth.
